He says: "Yes, Collingwood. Another 'swan-song' from yours truly is being projected for around the end of October. We are now talking about two (2) performances: Tuesday, Oct. 28th & Saturday, Nov.1, in Collingwood, Ont., adjacent to the ski resort, Blue Mountain on Georgian Bay, a long time haven for adventurous ski enthusiasts from across the continent…but now evolving into a year round resort area...approx. 2hrs. north of Toronto. "A Canadian actor friend of mine, Dean Hollin ((with whom he starred in the play MASS APPEAL in June-July 2000)), currently Producer/Manager of Collingwood's Gayety Theatre, has asked me to put together a pot-pourri of stories from my readers' theatre collection…a sort of "best from J.F.'s 'Fridiculousness' and 'Fools & Fiends'"…including two of Edgar Allan Poe's chilling masterpieces. We are still toying with the title of the show. "'Now Dean', I cautioned, 'you know how I am about immersing myself in all that, especially at this time of year.' We LOL'd a lot and then went on to make a happy deal in the spirit of spoof-the-spooks which turns out to be a mix of 'Yma Dream', 'Here There Be Tygers', 'The Ghost', and 'The Open Window', along with the shadier items 'Dead Call', '"The Cask of Amontillado' and 'The Tell-Tale Heart'. "Sound familiar? It's been a while. Perhaps the reprieve will inject some fresh zip into the proceedings. I hope some of you can make it up here. J.F. " On Sept. 30, producer Nancy Kersey updated SG: "Oct. 28 is a set date, but if there are enough phone calls/emails asking for a Saturday, Nov. 1st date because it would be easier for fans coming from the U.S. to attend, the fans need to phone or email the theater as soon as possible and state they would like to see that Saturday date added. It has not been officially added yet. Dean Hollin, the Artistic and Managing Director of the sponsoring theater, needs to see positive signs of interest from fans before adding the second date. "The show tentatively is called 'Jonathan Frid's Spooks and Spoofs: An Evening of Story Telling for All Hallows Eve.' "People should continue to watch Jonathan's website for updates." http://www.jonathanfrid.com Theatre information: Gayety Entertainment Ltd. 161 Hurontario Stret Collingwood, Ontario, Canada L9Y 2M1 To Order Tickets: Phone: (705) 444-0333 Toll Free (866) 442-9389 Fax: (705) 444-9255 Email: info@gayetytheatre.com Caution: "Theatre" is the way Canadians spell it. Loomis, Desmond, Kendrick) escorted former "Cagney & Lacey" co-star and 2003 Emmy nominee Tyne Daly to the Emmy Awards, telecast live on Fox on Sept. 21. During her acceptance speech, Tyne mentioned John in tribute to his acting skills. John won a Best Supporting Actor for a Drama Emmy in 1986 for his role as Harvey Lacey on C&L. · Sci Fi Channel plans to pre-empt DS this month for several days at a time. This is part of an overall schedule shift to accomodate its re-broadcast of t he Emmy-winning "Steven Spielberg's Taken" miniseries and other special programming. According to Sci Fi online, DS episodes are not scheduled to air Oct. 1-10 or Oct. 14-20. An episode is expected to show on Oct. 13. SG re-emphasizes that Sci Fi often pre-empts its regular schedule - not just DS - for special marathon or holiday programming. Fans should check their local TV listings regularly and often. · Recent print issues of SG and this Updates List announced and reported the 2003 DS Festival at the Brooklyn Marriott Hotel over the Labor Day weekend. The next postal-mail newsletter, SG #100, will feature the convention with more details and candid/posed guest pictures. · The Brooklyn Fest saw 2,000+ fans along with actors David Selby, John Karlen, Lara Parker, Nancy Barrett, Kathryn Leigh Scott, Marie Wallace, Chris Pennock, Jim Storm, Diana Millay, Donna Wandrey, Lisa Richards, Terrayne Crawford, and Roger Davis. Also participating were original DS cameramen John Woods and Stuart Goodman. · Proceeds from the charity auction raised finds for Alzheimer's research while offering special items such as the 1991 DS' Barnabas cane and Josette's portrait, plus a 1967 autographed script and assorted rare collectibles. On Friday, almost 300 fans took the NYC Harbor cruise. Over 800 fans and 11 guests attended the traditional Banquet with the Stars on Sunday evening. The full-day bus trip on Labor Day-Monday saw 200+ fans journey to Newport, RI. There, in an appropriate rainfall, they could walk the grounds of Carey Mansion/Seaview Terrace, the building actually used to depict "Collinwood." They also could explore the shoreline Cliff Walk, where the familiar opening credits footage was filmed. Later, the buses carried them into Newport's harbor-side district and the Black Pearl restaurant/bar, seen as "The Blue Whale" on DS. The most-anticipated moment of the Festival was the special world premiere stage dramatic presentation, "Dark Shadows -- Return To Collinwood." It was performed before a packed-house audience in the hotel's Grand Ballroom. Eleven DS actors brought to life a mix of original and new characters for the first-ever DS sequel. Presented as a radio play, it was recorded live with sound effects, music cues, and audience response. It was written and directed by Jamison Selby (David's son) from a story idea by Jamison and Jim Pierson. Set in contemporary Collinsport, the Collins Family and others gather for the reading of a will to determine the fates of the family's homes, wealth, power - and to reveal new secrets and face new conflicts. There are new players in the eternal games, shifts in alliances, questions answered, new puzzles raised, and mysteries left unresolved...for now? The actors subsequently went into the recording studio so that "Return To Collinwood" will be issued by MPI Home Video on CD in the form of a radio drama in the coming months. Print issue SG #100 will have specific information and more. DARK SHADOWS FESTIVAL PRESENTATION FOR 2004 · That upcoming SG #100 also will highlight the Fest's next DS event. This year's convention often was mentioned as the "Festival Farewell." But SG again emphasizes the Festival will continue to sponsor DS-related events and activities. · A gathering of guests and fans will be held in Summer, 2004, in Tarrytown, NY, at the filming location used for the 2 DS movies. It was announced at the close of this year's gathering that the Festival will present a "Weekend in Tarrytown," expected to cover 3 days.
