March 20, 2005. ****************************************************************** Hello, Dark Shadows Fan, ShadowGram (SG) announces the following breaking news for Dark Shadows (DS). **** SG regrets to inform fans of the death of ANTHONY GEORGE, who passed away at age 84 from a lung condition at a hospital in California on March 16. He was cremated. Anthony took over the role of "Burke Devlin" on DS and portrayed "Jeremiah Collins" in the 1795 flashback sequence (1967-68). He was a native of Endicott, NY. The Binghamtom Press & Sun-Bulletin ran an obituary yesterday and noted he "maintained friendships with people from his hometown." FRANK SCHOFIELD remained a close friend since their high school days. Frank played "Bill Malloy" and the "Ghost of Bill Malloy" on DS. Anthony moved to Hollywood in 1948 and his "first credited movie role (was) as a thug in 'Where The Sidewalk Ends" in 1950. He had the regular role of "Don Corey" in "Checkmate" (1960-62). He also was a soap regular as "Dr. Will Vernon" on "One Life to Live" 1977-84 and "Dr. Tony Vicente" on "Search for Tomorrow" 1970-75. SG notes other TV roles: "Cam Allison" on "The Untouchables" in 1960, ""Policewoman" and "Wonder Woman" in 1977, "Simon and Simon" in 1988, and many more. He did the voice-over for a Vicks Vapor Rub commercial. He was "Nick Arnstein" in "Funny Girl" on Broadway and on tour, and appeared in productions of "The Front Page," "Sunday in New York," "Cactus Flower," "The Rainmaker," "Come Blow Your Horn," Mister Roberts," and others. In 1991, he "was honored with a bronze star on the Sidewalk of Stars in Binghamton." The upcoming SG #104 print issue will remember Anthony with pictures and more career information. **** DS FESTIVAL "HOLLYWOOD WEEKEND" PLANS MEMORIALS TO ANTHONY GEORGE AND DON BRISCOE The DS Festival's "DS Hollywood Weekend" event plans a tribute to Anthony, his DS performances, and his entire career. The Fest also plans a similar salute to DS' DON BRISCOE (Chris and Tom Jennings, Timothy Shaw, Chris Collins, and Todd in "House of Dark Shadows." He died at age 64 from heart disease on Oct. 31 at his Memphis home. SG Online Updates #123 and #124 reported the sad news.
