May 1, 2005. ****************************************************************** Hello, Dark Shadows Fan, ShadowGram (SG) announces the following breaking news for Dark Shadows (DS). *** The new print issue, SG #104, is being mailed now to current postal-mail subscribers with the latest DS news, updates, and pictures. Following are SG #104 key highlights, plus much more. --- SG remembers ANTHONY GEORGE, who died of lung disease home 3-16 at age 84. (SG Online Update #129 sadly announced his passing.) Anthony portrayed "Burke Devlin" (2nd casting) and "Jeremiah Collins" (1795). This memorial honors him with pictures from 2003, 1983, and a rare casual photo from the early 1980s. There are obituaries, media coverage, biographical information, and reminiscences from his longtime friend Frank Scofield (who was "Frank Malloy" on DS). Some of Anthony's own comments about his life and career also are included. ---- LARA PARKER (Angelique, Alexis, Cassandra, Valerie, Catherine) celebrates her Master's Degree in Fine Arts with her graduation ceremony photo. SG is honored to share this exclusive personal picture from a day that was "a high point of my life." She offers SG readers her own insights about her new DS novel, tentatively titled "The Salem Branch." Tor plans to publish it sometime in 2006. Future SGs will update its status. A sequel to her 1998 out-of-print novel "Angelique's Descent" (AD), its 2 intertwining storylines are set centuries apart. In 1971 Collinsport immediately after DS ended, Barnabas is exploring his freedom from the vampire curse, but also is "questioning not only the cure itself but his relationship with Julia and his dependence on her." At the same time, the Collins family learns more about Antoinette Harpignies, who was introduced at the end of AD. Lara "heavily researched" Salem, Massachusetts, as she follows Miranda du Val and Judah Zachery in the midst of the 1692 Salem Witch Trials hysteria. Her observations in this SG #104 are enticing hints. "I seem to have a real knack for writing horror and I am still struggling with literary fiction.... The new story is a twist onthe Barnabas-Angelique story" and "Quentin is here too.... I am happy with the book. I think it is exciting and fun.... I love the character of Antoinette.... She is very close to me. Also, I love Miranda's character." She talks about her Master's thesis on the literary horror genre and adds she is writing a collection of "mostly humorous short stories based on what it's like to be a working actress, mostly set in the 70's and 80's One story, 'Her Robert Blake,' has been published online in Suspect Thoughts, A Journal of Subversive Writing: at www.suspectthoughts.com/parker.html. Please, if anyone reads it, remember this is fiction!" This SG #104 has more of Lara's thoughts. The next SG #105 and subsequent print issues will announce the latest confirmed developments for the novel. --- JONATHAN FRID (Barnabas) gives SG #104 a special new photo, taken just days after his 80th birthday. He participates in his official website with his essays, remarks, and career highlights.
