******************************************************************* ShadowGram Online Dark Shadows Updates List Marcy Robin's Cyberspace "Dark Shadows" Update List An Internet Publication of SHADOWGRAM < ShadowGram@aol.com > Number 90. March 7, 2003. ******************************************************************* Hello, Dark Shadows Fan, ShadowGram (SG) announces the following breaking news for Dark Shadows (DS). Details and more information will be in the upcoming new SG #98 print issue. * DAVID SELBY - CHANGE OF DATES & VENUE: SG Online Update #88 and print issue SG #98 announced the world premiere of "Final Assault," the fact-based play written by DAVID SELBY (Quentin Collins). He and wife Chip update: "Final Assault" has a new location and date: It is being staged at the West Virginia State Capitol Theatre in Charleston, WV. Performances are April 10/12 and Apr. 17/19. David is not appearing in the play; his son Jamison (Todd) is directing from David's script. Box Office: 304-343-5272 or 304-766-5721. www.charlestonstagecompany.com Chip explains: "It's a play against the removal of coal in WV, among other states, by taking the top third of the mountain off and pushing that over the sides, thus filling up the streams and killing everything in its path - in clear violation of the Clean Water Act, which the Bush administration is trying to get repealed." Also, he will work with students at WV State College this spring, teaching "a few classes and possibly do(ing) some workshops" as a Scholar in Residence. He has a brief role in the independent movie "Topanga Canyon." SG Online Update #88 noted he's filmed scenes for the comedy "Surviving Christmas," starring Ben Affleck and Christina Applegate. The movie probably won't be released until late 2004. More news from the Selbys will be in the new SG #98 print issue. * JIM FYFE (1991 Willie, Ben) tells SG #98 about his "serio-comedy" play "String Fever" with Cynthia Nixon ("Sex & The City"), through Mar. 23 at the Ensemble Studio Theater, 549 West 52nd St., NYC. Reservations: 212-247-4982. The romantic comedy is about a neurotic woman dealing with relationship and personal issues. She meets Jim's "Frank," a physicist who believes in the string theory that all matter is made of inter-related microscopic strings. The play was commissioned by the Sloan Foundation, which supports playwrights who focus on science-related subjects. * Dan Curtis Productions (DCP) asks SG to announce: DAN CURTIS (Creator, Director, Producer) participates in a live online chat marking the DVD release of the second half of his monumental 1988-89 miniseries "War & Remembrance." Called "W&R - The Final Chapter," the set has 6 DVDs plus a CD of Bob Cobert's soundtrack music. It comes 3-25 from MPI. He was the producer, director, and co-authored the teleplay from Herman Wouk's World War II novel, a sequel to his 1983 acclaimed miniseries "Winds of War." This was the biggest miniseries ever (30+ hours) and the first production allowed to film in Auschwitz. W&R won the Emmy, People's Choice, Golden Globe, Director's Guild, and other awards. DS actors DENNIS PATRICK and MICHAEL McGUIRE appeared in the miniseries; the musical score was by DS Composer BOB COBERT, and the producer was BARBARA STEELE (1991 DS). DCP: "Fans are invited to participate in the chat, but questions must be submitted in advance. All questions should pertain to W&R and should be submitted at the website starting 3-15." The chat is Wed., 3-26, between 4:00-5:00 PT on the MPI website: http://www.darkshadowsdvd.com * JONATHAN FRID (Barnabas) has a new flash and audio presentation for "Richard III" on his official website: http://www.jonathanfrid.com * JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT (1991 David, Daniel) voiced the lead character in Disney's TREASURE PLANET. The film is nominated for an Academy Award as "Best Animated Feature." The Oscars ceremony is 3-23 in Hollywood. (SG #98 has extensive coverage of the movie's production and release.) * DCP tells SG an ABC Special in May should include a clip of Barnabas as the network salutes its 50 years of broadcasting. * The upcoming print issue SG #98 announces exclusive advance information from DCP about a new DS item in development, including a premiere photo of the prototype. The issue also has preview information and a picture of the expected cover for DS DVD Collection #5 (release 4-29). * KATHRYN LEIGH SCOTT (Maggie, Josette, Rachel, Kitty) asks SG to announce that 8 lorgnettes she wore on DS are being auctioned on eBay. She collected the decorative eyeglasses while she was on DS, buying them at shops and flea markets in the NYC area, London, Rome, and Paris. Each is auctioned individually and accompanied by an original photographic print of Kathryn wearing the lorgnettes, personally autographed by her to the winning bidder. Buyer may choose name or phrase to be personalized on the print. Photographs will be printed to order as an 8x10 image centered on 11x14 photographic paper to act as a self-matted print and signed by the photographer. The auctions close 3-14. eBAY auction item #'s: 3315063439 3315063441 3315063445 3315063446 3315063448 3315063452 3315063456 3315063458 Kathryn says, "I first began collecting lorgnettes shortly after I started playing Maggie Evans on DS in 1966. On my way home from rehearsal 1 afternoon I happened to see a lorgnette in a shop window near where I lived at the time in Greenwich Village. I'd never seen a lorgnette before and I fell in love with it… Before long, as I added more to my collection, I began wearing several at a time on long chains. Ramse Mostoller, our wardrobe designer, encouraged me to start wearing them on the show. I think Bob Costello, our producer, may have wondered how a modestly paid governess in a small Maine fishing village could possibly manage to wear all this pricey ornamentation on the job, but that's another story. Lela Swift, our director, was generally indulgent of Alexandra, Nancy, Lara and me when we fell overboard into some new girlish fad, like miniskirts or hoop earrings. I took to wearing my lorgnettes on the show every chance I got, and off the set as well…" Read more of Kathryn's memories of these personal props at the individual eBay auctions sites for each item. * Kathryn's publishing company tells SG readers: "We had an overwhelming response to our last ½-price sale and ran out of books. I had to send out a few rain-check notices. We still don't have any copies of DS Almanac 30th Anniversary books. However, we now have a shipment of slightly shopworn books from our distributor. In addition to our usual titles, we also have a limited quantity of DS Memories ($10.97); DS Almanac: Millenium Edition ($9.97); DS Movie Book ($10.97); Charlie's Angels Casebook ($9.97); Hollywood At Your Feet (9.97); Fiction: The Art and Craft of Writing and Getting Published ($7.48); Word of Mouth: A Guide to Voice-Over Excellence ($6.47). Postage is $5 for 1-2 items." Pomegranate Press, P.O.
